NEW YORK, May 1, 2006 – CMP Media LLC's new Dark Reading Website went live today.

Dark Reading (www.darkreading.com) is the latest enterprise-focused Web publication to emerge from CMP's business unit, Light Reading. As the Web's only one-stop security shop, Dark Reading will simplify the challenges IT professionals face in keeping informed about the latest viruses, enterprise network security, and data privacy.

The dashboard look and feel of Dark Reading conveys multiple security information vectors for IT professionals, including the latest security news headlines, as well as details on the overall state of the Internet, guides to enterprise network health, a scrolling "bug feed" feature, a threat barometer, case studies, product reviews, and more.

"Dark Reading combines significant new investment with resources from across our company to extend CMP's leadership in the security industry," said Steve Weitzner, president and CEO of CMP Media. "We know that IT security professionals can't spend all day combing the Web for virus alerts and other warnings, so Dark Reading will provide all the alerts, news, information and tools they need in an easy-to-use format – whether they face an enterprise emergency, or want to comparison-shop for new firewalls. This new publication furthers our corporate strategy of better serving our customers' marketing needs by attracting IT professionals with a new platform that takes advantage of all of the latest Internet technologies, such as broadband TV and podcasts."

That approach tracks very closely with the way security professionals want to inform themselves, according to one industry leader.

"By taking advantage of CMP's rich content base across the IT industry, and combining it with their library of security product reviews and other specific security content, Dark Reading can become a go-to site for people who need to make strategic and tactical security decisions," said Ira Winkler, CISSP, author of "Spies Among Us," and a member of Dark Reading's Editorial Advisory Board.

Dark Reading's editorial staff is headed by Terry Sweeney, Editor in Chief. He is joined by Mike Fratto, Editor at Large; and Tim Wilson, Site Editor, both Network Computing veterans. Collectively, the trio brings more than 50 years' editorial experience to Dark Reading, more than half of that with security and online publishing.

In addition to original content generated by the Dark Reading editors, the site will feature the best of CMP's security content from Network Computing, InformationWeek, and CRN. Readers can also find best-of-Web security links, as well as blogs and columns from industry luminaries such as Geoff Bennett, Rob Enderle, Joe Hernick, Gary McGraw, Steve Stasiukonis, and Richard Stiennon. Dark Reading site visitors can also subscribe to the DR Daily and the Dark Reader Weekly, email newsletters for registered users of the site.

Dark Reading's Editorial Advisory Board includes a number of security experts and industry veterans:

  • Stephen Delahunty, Senior Associate with Booz Allen Hamilton

  • Todd Fitzgerald, Director of Information Systems Security and Systems Security Officer for United Government Services LLC

  • Joe Hernick, IT director for an independent boarding school in New England

  • Brooke Paul, President and CEO of Neohapsis

  • Steve Stasiukonis, VP and Founder of Secure Network Technologies

  • Ira Winkler, President of the Internet Security Advisors Group

In launching Dark Reading, CMP has folded in the assets and resources of its highly successful Secure Enterprise and Security Pipeline sites. Dark Reading will also be working closely with CMP's other security divisions, Black Hat, and the Computer Security Institute. CMP is projecting 150,000 monthly visitors and approximately 600,000 page views for Dark Reading. ###
