Product Watch: BitArmor Launches Cloud-Based Encryption Managed Service For USBs, Email, Disks
DataControl 4.0 service offers military-grade encryption for midsize companies
November 20, 2009
BitArmor has rolled out a new cloud-based encryption service for midsize enterprises that integrates the encryption of USBs, email, and computer disks. The new DataControl 4.0 service is aimed at midsize businesses looking for a less expensive way to comply with state and federal data privacy regulations.
A.I.M. Mutual Insurance Companies, Ursuline Senior Services, and Slovak Savings Bank are among BitArmor's first customers of the cloud-based service. "BitArmor Managed Encryption is a great security model as it provides very strong but highly affordable encryption so A.I.M Mutual can continue to protect our key assets in a fiscally responsible manner," said Ray Pata, Manager Systems and Programming of A.I.M Mutual Insurance Companies, in a statement. The insurer is subscribing to the service in order to comply with Massachusetts' data privacy law.
The DataControl 4. 0 service is a multi-tenant solution that handles the encryption processing on the client side so sensitive data doesn't enter the cloud. It integrates managed disk, USB, and email encryption and provides compliance reporting features, as well as high redundancy and offline capabilities should a network outage occur. Pricing for the cloud-based encryption service begins at $5 per seat per month.
It also comes with BitArmor's no-breach guarantee: If the customer has to report a data breach of its data that's being protected by BitArmor, BitArmor provides a full refund of the service.
"Today's businesses are faced with the seemingly impossible task of meeting data security requirements while managing IT costs," said Patrick McGregor, CEO of BitArmor, in a statement. "BitArmor continues to deliver the necessary innovations, like SaaSbased encryption, so that all companies can afford to protect their critical data without sacrificing business growth."
