PCI SSC Releases New Security Tools for Small Businesses

Tool intended to help small businesses understand their risk and how well they're being addressed.

Big data breaches make big news, but small businesses account for 61% of breached organizations, according to Verizon's "2018 Data Breach Investigations Report." Now, the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council (PCI SSC) has released a tool to help them understand their risk and how well they're being addressed.

The PCI Data Security Essential Evaluation Tool provides an online service and set of evaluation forms for small businesses to use in the initial assessment of their payment security situation.

PCI also launched an updated version of the PCI Data Security Essentials Resources for Small Merchants to help smaller businesses understand how to protect themselves and their customers in the face of evolving threats. In addition, the PCI SSC Merchant Resource Page added has six documents, including two new papers, on how to set up systems and deploy infrastructure to safeguard payments and private information.
