<i>Dark Reading</i> To Hold Virtual Conference On Insider Threats Next Week

Dark Reading next Wednesday will hold a free, all-day virtual event -- "Dealing With Insider Threats" -- that lets attendees use their desktops to gain access to many of the same features as a live security trade show.

The virtual conference, which is co-produced by Dark Reading parent InformationWeek, will take place on July 15 beginning at 10 a.m. EST. The agenda is built entirely around issues, challenges, and technologies surrounding the data security threats posed by employees, contractors, and other trusted users within the enterprise.

The event, which features a virtual convention hall, auditorium, exhibit floor, and attendee discussion lounges, will also host some of the industry's best-known speakers on insider threats. The keynote presentation will be given by Eric Shaw, president of the Shaw Stroz forensics firm and a behavioral scientist who has worked with the CIA and Carnegie Mellon University. Shaw will discuss methods for detecting suspicious behavior and assessing an organization's vulnerability to insider threats.

Other panels during the all-day event will include discussions on accidental data leaks, employee privacy, physical security, and managing threats from business partners and other trusted guests. Attendees can join a single session or all of the day's events, dropping in or out with a single click. The panels will feature a variety of well-known speakers -- from security researchers to forensics investigators to technical and legal experts -- and each session is scheduled to include questions directly from audience members.

The virtual conference will also feature an exhibit floor that features 10 different vendors, all offering tools and solutions for defending against insider threats. Visitors to the virtual booths can see demos, ask questions of the vendors, and download product literature. Many of the vendors will also do presentations on their technologies in the virtual auditorium.

In addition, the virtual convention hall provides several areas where attendees can meet and speak to each other -- anonymously if they prefer -- about security issues and challenges in their environments. The virtual chat rooms will also provide a venue for attendees to talk directly with session speakers following their presentations.
