75% Of SMBs Never Store Data Offsite: KineticD

The migration of storage to the cloud may be the first time many small and midsized business have adequately backed up data offsite, according to a new survey from cloud storage company KineticD.

The migration of storage to the cloud may be the first time many small and midsized business have adequately backed up data offsite, according to a new survey from cloud storage company KineticD.The numbers from cloud service and storage provider KineticD paint a scary portrait (if also a grain-of-salt one: KineticD is, after all, pushing cloud storage and services).

According to the company's survey of 1,000 customers worldwide:

77% never backed up data offsite prior to migrating to cloud storage

23% never backed up data at all

8% backed up no more frequently than once a month

Allowing for that grain of salt -- clearly KineticD is touting the benefits of its services, and why not? -- the company's numbers for its customers bear out a story we've told here many times: Backup remains one of the largest, most important and at the same time most neglected responsibilities (sic)your business faces.

Whether or not you move your storage to the cloud -- and there are solid arguments on both sides of cloud-storage considerations -- take a moment, as soon as you can, and look at these three questions in terms of your business and its most crucial data:
