BSA Hails New Czar

WASHINGTON -- The Business Software Alliance (BSA) today welcomed Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff’s nomination of Greg Garcia to become the department’s first Assistant Secretary for Cyber Security and Telecommunications – a position created by Congress 14 months ago in an effort to coordinate federal protection against cyber attacks.

BSA has worked with Garcia on a variety of projects including the National Cyber Security Partnership, a public-private partnership established following the 2003 White House National Strategy to Secure Cyberspace and the National Cyber Security Summit. This important partnership was developed to establish “best practices” and programs to better secure and enhance America’s critical information infrastructure.

“We applaud the Secretary’s nomination of Greg, and welcome the opportunity to continue our work together. Greg brings a wealth of knowledge to the government’s cyber security program, as well as a deep understanding of policy and the ‘know-how’ to get things accomplished in Washington,” said BSA President and CEO Robert Holleyman. “He understands that government has a critical role to play, and his experience in the private sector provides a unique perspective on industry’s critical role in strengthening our collective approach to protecting the data security infrastructure.”
