LOMBARD, Ill. -- Computhink Inc., provider of Enterprise Content Management (ECM) solutions for the global small and medium business markets, today announced a new release of its popular ViewWise ECM software. Central in the new release are automated retention policies, helping customers to manage their document lifecycles and meet retention laws and regulations.

An increasing number of laws and regulations compel organizations in a wide range of industries to preserve business documents for periods of time typically ranging from 2 to 7 years. "Increased government scrutiny and several spectacular court penalties have large and small US companies scurrying to review their document management policies." said Frank Wasti, Vice President of Sales & Marketing - America's with Computhink. "Many people do not realize that the law may require them to produce a 7-year old e-mail conversation in a 2-3 day timeframe."

ViewWise 5.7's automated retention policies enable organizations to automatically apply retention policies to different documents. For example contracts can be set to be retained for 10 years, while e-mails are kept for only 7 years. Management of the policies is done automatically on the server and completely transparent to the end-users. Wasti: "It is a low cost and low maintenance solution that helps organizations comply with regulations and improve their document management at the same time."

ViewWise's powerful indexing and full text search capabilities make it easy to retrieve documents and e-mails in minutes or even seconds. When documents reach the end of their retention period ViewWise 5.7 offers a range of options, ranging from moving them to offline storage to automatic deletion.
