Maiffret brings unparalleled experience to FireEye in the analysis and communication of cyber security threats and trends, and proven experience in taking next-generation security products from concept to commercial release for the public and private sectors. Maiffret will drive the evolution of FireEye's next-generation modern malware protection technology and further amplify the company's global security research efforts.
"For much of my career I've had opportunity to help technology vendors stay ahead of the bad guys through vulnerability research that identified potential weaknesses in the IT infrastructure before they could be maliciously exploited," said Maiffret. "FireEye represents an incredible opportunity to tackle the modern cyber security challenge from a new perspective by taking on the creators of malware head on. Based on the company's recent investment from In-Q-Tel and ongoing adoption of the company's technology by major brands and government agencies, I am joining a company that is filling a clear gap in the current security market."
Maiffret is a world renowned security expert and entrepreneur. As co-founder and chief technology officer of eEye Digital Security, Maiffret led the overall product strategy and vision for the company. The products that Marc has designed have been recognized with numerous awards and are used by more than ten thousand organizations worldwide. This includes the world's largest financial institution and the entire Department of Defense. He also led the research team which is credited for discovering countless critical security vulnerabilities in software products used by the majority of the world's business-related systems. This includes personally co-discovering the first Microsoft computer worm, CodeRed. Maiffret has been invited to speak at the industry's most prestigious security conferences, and has accepted three separate invitations to testify before the United States Congress on matters of national cyber security and critical infrastructure protection.
"Marc brings incredible pedigree to our already world-class malware research and analysis efforts, and a unique perspective on the security challenges faced in the federal government, department of defense and financial services industries," said Ashar Aziz, CEO of FireEye. "Unlike traditional threats, such as viruses and Spam, modern malware is the unseen silent threat plaguing global networks and enabling cyber crime and cyber warfare. We are committed to bringing the best minds together here at FireEye in order to help companies and even entire countries to combat the modern malware threat."
