Product Watch: Imation Rolls Out Secure Data Storage Portfolio
New data-at-rest line features encryption, authentication, and FIPS compliance
Digital, audio, and video storage manufacturer Imation today unveiled a line of secure storage components that includes flash drives, external hard drives, optical storage, and security software for its existing tape systems.
The Defender line of storage products are all compliant with FIPS 140-2, range from personal to enterprise offerings, and incorporate MXI Security's authentication, digital identity, and data encryption technologies. "[Several] data-at-rest vendors have solutions just for optical or flash -- we have a broad portfolio," says Jason Elles, global brand manager for Imation.
Imation is targeting not only government, but financial and healthcare industries, which are starting to adopt FIPS standards, says Keith Schwartz, director of global strategic growth and public sector for Imation. "With the HITECH Act, it's not just healthcare organizations [for example], but also business associates of theirs that are required to encrypt data at rest."
Among the new Imation Defender wares are the Defender Software Suite, which includes antivirus scanning, device management, and access identity; Defender Optical, self-encrypting optical media that contains password authentication for CD-R, DVD-R, DVD+R, and Blu-ray discs; Defender F50 Pivot Flash Drive for FIPS 140-2 Level 1 security; and Defender F100 and F150 flash drives with FIPS 140-2 Level 3 security and strong authentication -- all of which are now available.
Imation also added biometric-secured drives: the Defender F200 Biometric Flash Drive, with strong password and biometric authentication, and the Defender H100 and H200 External Hard Drives, with strong password and biometric fingerprint authentication. These devices will be available later this month or next month.
