PRESS RELEASE

SAN FRANCISCO --(Business Wire)-- Apr 21, 2009 TheInfoPro, an independent research company, announced today at RSA' Conference 2009 early results from its security study indicate that information security professionals within Fortune 1000 (F1000) and midsize enterprises (MSEs) will focus on the implementation of application firewalls, Network Access Control (NAC) technologies and Data Loss Prevention (DLP) technologies during the next year and a half. In addition, the research shows that security professionals are more concerned with the risks associated with cloud computing than they are with those associated with virtualization.

Key findings on technology implementation include:

  • Application Firewalls: Twenty-two percent (22%) of F1000 organizations have application firewalls in use today, while 31% are planning adoption in the future. F5 Networks leads for both in use and in plan citations.

    • Network Access Control (NAC): Citations for in pilot and in near-term plan implementations grew to 25% from six months ago of those interviewed to date. Cisco remains the market leader among in use and in plan citations; however, Microsoft, Juniper, Symantec, and McAfee are improving their standings.

    • Data Loss Prevention (DLP): Twenty-nine percent (29%) of F1000 organizations have DLP in use, and an additional 37% are planning implementations of DLP. Symantec continues to lead among in use and in plan citations for DLP.

    • Virtualization and Cloud Computing: Organizations continue to view these solutions differently in terms of risk. Only 29% of those interviewed thus far indicated being at least very concerned about security in a virtualized environment, while 53% of respondents indicated being at least very concerned about cloud computing solutions. TheInfoPro's biannual security study, based on in-depth interviews with IT pros at F1000 and MSE organizations, outlines where security departments within these organizations stand in terms of budgets, technology roadmaps, and technology provider choices and ratings. Current results are based on 128 hourlong interviews with IT professionals at Fortune 1000 and midsize organizations in winter and spring 2009. This data comes from the second of a series of Real-Time Updates. The final, in-depth reports of the Information Security Study will be based on approximately 250 interviews and will be published in early summer 2009.
