Aiming at the small and midsized business markets, data protection firm SteelEye's latest version of its Protection Suite offers disaster recovery and business continuity tools for Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008.SteelEye Protection Suite (SPS) For Windows Server, version 7, just announced,is touted by the company as targeting the BC/DR needs of both small and midsized businesses, and enterprise-level needs.
Among other features, SPS Version 7 includes:
Real-time CDP (Continuous Data Protection) across multiple platforms, ensuring restoration of data, the company says, to essentially "any point-in-time" prior to the data failure. We've spoken here before of the importance of rapid and efficient restoration after a disaster; the closer to the point of failure that you can restore data (and operations) the less business information (and business!) you are likely to lose.
Automatic failover designed, according to SteelEye, to maintain "geographically dispersed clusters and hybrid high-availability/disaster recovery configurations". Again, something we've discussed here: geographic distribution of data and recovery tools and procedures can shave vital time from the process of getting your business running again.
Application Protection -- in addition to Microsoft Exchange, SQL Server, SharePoint, Oracle, SPS provides tools, via its LifeKeeper Extender, for the creation application of recovery kits for other apps.
SteelEye offers a free evaluation program, (registration is required; the free trial is facilitated by a call from a SteelEye represpentative) that's worth a look if your business is running Windows Server 2003 or 2008.
