Bell Canada Hit with 2nd Breach in 8 Months
Less than 100,000 customers affected in latest incident.
Police are investigating a data breach at Canada's largest telecom provider, the Canadian Press reports. While the exposed data appears only to be names and email addresses on fewer than 100,000 customers - no financial information - this is the second data breach reported by Bell Canada in the past eight months.
In May, the telecom company announced a breach of 1.9 million customer email addresses, as well as 1,700 names and phone numbers. Ten years ago, Bell Canada also experienced a security incident, in which personal data on 3.4 million customers was stolen, but later recovered.
Bell Canada told customers, in breach notifications, that the company had instituted new security and identity and access management measures, according to the Canadian Press.
