Chinese Hacker Gets US Prison Term For Military Data Theft
Su Bin worked alongside Chinese military officers to steal sensitive data from major US defense contractors.
A Chinese man charged with conspiring to hack military data was recently sentenced to 46 months in a US prison by a District Court, reports Reuters. Su Bin, who admitted to the charges in March, was also ordered to pay a fine of $10,000.
The offender worked in conjunction with Chinese military hackers from the People’s Liberation Army Air Force to “steal designs for cutting-edge military aircraft that are indispensable to our national defense," said John Carlin, assistant attorney general for national security. He hacked into computers of major defense contractors like Boeing for years to gather sensitive data and sell them to Chinese companies.
Su Bin was arrested in 2014 from Canada and later extradited to the US.
