COLUMBIA, Md. -- Open source innovator and SNORT® creator, Sourcefire, Inc. (Nasdaq: FIRE), a leader in network intrusion prevention, announced today the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich), one of the top international science and technology universities, attended by the Nobel Laureate Albert Einstein, has chosen Sourcefire to help them gain better control of their network.

ETH Zurich has over 18,000 people from 80 nations that study, research or work at the university, so consequently providing the very best security services for the institution’s network is paramount. It is essential to provide a reliable, quality network in an ever-changing and expanding infrastructure.

Sourcefire RNA™ (Real-time Network Awareness) monitoring technology helps ensure that any systems that attach to the network comply with corporate configuration and usage policies. The benefits delivered by this leading Network Behavior Analysis (NBA) solution led Stephen Sheridan, who heads the Network Security Group at ETH, to investigate the potential of the Sourcefire 3D™ System.

The University’s Network Security Group is responsible for providing quality of service in the network through intrusion detection, monitoring for breach of policy, incident handling, internal consulting and auditing. Being able to combine the functionality of Sourcefire RNA with Snort open source intrusion prevention and detection technology, which was already being used at the University, was a deciding factor for the Network Security Group.
