SAN JOSE, Calif. -- F-Secure Corporation today announced a new service in its Online Wellbeing offering, a portfolio of consumer solutions that enable Internet users to take full advantage of the opportunities in their networked lives without the need to worry about vulnerabilities or security risks on their PC's.

The Internet presents incredible opportunities for creativity, social interaction, entertainment, information access, management of personal memories and conducting business. This has increased the exchange of confidential information online, and for this reason it has become ever more important to carefully secure access to the wealth of resources the Internet has to offer.

Having a security suite installed is an important first step to staying safe, but in F-Secure's experience, many people have outdated security software or incomplete freeware solutions that are vulnerable to the constantly evolving security threats, often giving the Internet user a false sense of security. To reach a good level of security, it is no longer enough to simply address the antivirus and firewall part of the equation. To avoid becoming a target for security attacks, it has become necessary to look out for vulnerabilities in the dozens of application software packages a modern PC typically has installed, while at the same time making sure that the latest operating system patches are always installed. This constant need to update can be a challenge for most household users, and many PC's therefore remain vulnerable.

F-Secure Health Check addresses this problem by enabling Internet users to perform a comprehensive over-the-web check on the overall security status of their PC, including the operating system, web browsers, email clients and other application software. The service is designed to verify if a PC is safe to use online and to help users solve potential security problems in their PCs with assisted software upgrades and security advice.
