SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- SonicWALL, Inc. (NASDAQ: SNWL), a leading provider of IT security and data protection solutions, today announced that its Aventail EX-2500 appliance is the first SonicWALL product to achieve SSL-TLS (VPN) 3.0 certification from ICSA Labs, a division of TruSecure Corporation, an independent division of Verizon Business.

The ICSA Labs SSL-TLS VPN certification process rigorously tests, assesses, and validates SSL-TLS VPNs in a simulated, real-world environment. Unlike other testing organizations, ICSA Labs testing criteria are publicly posted for review and comment by industry groups, industry experts, and corporate end users. The SSL-TLS VPN testing criteria is developed and updated with this input in conjunction with a consortium of SSL-TLS VPN product vendors.

"SonicWall/Aventail is one of the first vendors to earn the prestigious ICSA Labs SSL-TLS 3.0 certification," said George Japak, managing director, ICSA Labs. "SonicWall/Aventail holds a number of ICSA Labs certifications, demonstrating a commitment to customers' needs of highly secure and highly available applications."

Over the last few years, ICSA Labs has updated its testing criteria with significant changes in functional, security and cryptographic requirements. These include cache cleaning testing, which now protect sensitive data remaining, even in the case of abnormal session termination. Stronger and more updated ciphersuites (AES) are also required. Other changes have addressed concerns with logging, certificate management and validation, configuration persistence and client requirements. All of these criteria changes were adopted by the ICSA Labs SSL-TLS Product Developers’ consortium after a thorough public review process.

"ICSA Labs certification for SSL VPNs is one of the most comprehensive of its kind, encompassing security, access, and management aspects," stated Chris Witeck, Director Product Marketing at SonicWALL. Our long-standing work with ICSA Labs helps ensures our customers have peace of mind that they are deploying a highly secure network infrastructure that meets the strictest requirements.”
