LAS VEGAS -- Intoto, the leading provider of security software for enterprise networking equipment and CPE gateways, today announced the beta release of IntruProT IPS, an enterprise-class intrusion prevention system available as a free download at [ http://www.openintoto.com ]www.openintoto.com in 30 days. IntruProT IPS allows channel partners and IT managers to easily create a robust, enterprise-ready security device - for free - using off-the-shelf x86 server hardware, making it an ideal solution for any small to midsized enterprise. Intoto will demonstrate IntruProT IPS and other network security solutions at Interop 2007 (Booth #911).

"To date, high-performing, enterprise-class network security has been out of the reach of many small and midsized enterprises due to cost constraints, yet just because they're small doesn't mean these companies don't have major security concerns," said Sathyan Iyengar, CEO, Intoto. "With IntruProT IPS these businesses can now receive from Intoto and its partners the same level of security, functionality and performance as the offerings we deliver for many of the world's largest enterprises, with implementation savings of 80 percent or more compared to other IPS solutions."

IntruProT IPS is designed to prevent an intruder from exploiting vulnerabilities in an existing computer system or network. It also aims to prevent individuals inside the enterprise from misusing privileges and exploiting existing vulnerabilities in the network. IntruProT IPS uses multiple detection methods including signature detection, protocol anomaly and traffic anomaly. The system monitors the network traffic, alerts administrators of any suspicious activity and stops attacks from reaching their intended destination. It has the capability to identify bandwidth intensive applications such as P2P and IM, and enables administrators to control bandwidth usage by these applications, thereby preserving bandwidth for mission critical applications. The product is designed to plug into the network without any changes to the network configuration, either in-front of or behind an existing firewall.

"IPS systems are the next generation firewalls. With increasing complexity of exploits and vulnerabilities, small businesses are increasingly susceptible to attacks and require the same level of protection as larger companies, which means IPS deployment by small and medium sized companies must increase," said Charles Kolodgy, research director for secure content and threat management products at IDC. "IntruProT IPS, a proven offering which has been widely adopted by OEMs, provides a cost effective model for small business to deploy next generation network threat protection."
