ATLANTA -- Secure email and Internet gateway security provider Marshal celebrates its tenth anniversary of MailMarshal today. Founded in April 1997, Marshal Software began life as a division of New Zealand-based company Designer Technology. Ahead of its time, the company’s first product was email security software MailMarshal v1.0 (originally launched as Cleanmail) developed to focus on virus scanning and simplistic content filtering, before Spam even existed. Today, a decade later, MailMarshal remains Marshal’s flagship product, the third most widely installed content management product worldwide.

To mark Marshal’s next decade, Marshal is set to announce the availability of its market leading software solution on two new content security platforms: a Managed Security Service and a Security Appliance. This multi-platform strategy will offer customers the flexibility to benefit from MailMarshal as a hosted service at the Internet level and a software solution or appliance at the gateway perimeter.

Frost & Sullivan, in its World Content Filtering Report 2006, says of Marshal: “The scalability of the company’s solutions is likely to ascertain growth in the enterprise segment. The company’s history in M&A activity, the state-of-the-art technologies and the aggressive international expansion show a picture of a vendor not afraid to take risks. Since Marshal seems to base its strategy choices on informed decisions, Frost & Sullivan believes that the company has the potential for further rapid growth.”

Marshal’s first ten years have been eventful: Beginning as a division of Designer Technology NZ when the first MailMarshal was sold in 1997, Marshal was acquired by NetIQ in 2002. In December 2005, Marshal was the subject of a management buy-out (MBO) from NetIQ, spearheaded by the then Worldwide Sales Director of Marshal, Ed Macnair.
