US Formally Accuses Russia Of Stealing DNC Emails
No word on what sanctions, if any, are coming.
US government officials formally accused the Russian government of authorizing cyberattacks on the Democratic National Committee. Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and the Department of Homeland Security issued a statement that the leaked emails "are intended to interfere with the U.S. election process.”
The statement said, according to the a report from the New York Times, “We believe, based on the scope and sensitivity of these efforts, that only Russia’s senior-most officials could have authorized these activities.” It did not name any Russian officials specifically.
The next question is whether the US will respond with sanctions or counterattacks.
