Nearly three quarters of security professionals think some type of cyberattack on the upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup is a sure thing, a new study shows.
More than 70% of security pros surveyed by Lastline expect attackers to target network infrastructure of the World Cup, either via a denial-of-service (DDoS) or social media breach. The men's international soccer tournament, which kicks off tomororw, is being held for the first time in Russia.
Forty-four percent of security pros expect email surrounding the Cup to be in the bullseye, while 47% expect mobile to be at risk.
World Cup-themed spam is already flooding inboxes: Kaspersky Lab researchers this month spotted phishing emails and fake Web pages promising fake giveaways and ticket purchases - but instead aim to steal money and personal information.
