Organization Looks To Honor Infosec Workforce Advocates In The Americas

PALM HARBOR, Fla., March 10, 2011 (ISC)2' ("ISC-squared"), the not-for-profit global leader in educating and certifying information security professionals throughout their careers, is now accepting nominations for its inaugural Americas Information Security Leadership Awards (ISLA) Program.

Established to recognize outstanding leadership and achievements in information security workforce improvement and practice by professionals in the U.S. and Canada, and Central and South America, the first annual Americas ISLA honors will be presented at a gala dinner on Sept. 21, 2011 in conjunction with the recently announced (ISC)2 Security Congress in Orlando, Fla.

"Our awards programs for Asia-Pacific and the U.S. Government have a gained a strong reputation throughout the information security industry and are now recognized as coveted awards," said W. Hord Tipton, CISSP-ISSEP, CA P, CISA, executive director of (ISC)2. "We have chosen to expand the program to the Americas region to honor industry leaders who are pioneering new and improved workforce initiatives to help fill the need for highly qualified and ethical professionals. The Americas awards program will also recognize exemplary new entrants to the field."

Nomination categories for the 2011 Americas ISLA program are:

o Senior Information Security Professional recognizes a CSO, CISO, information security manager or other senior security manager with significant information security management responsibilities who has demonstrated a leadership role in any information security workforce improvement initiative, program or project. Candidates in this category typically should have at least 10 years of work experience, seven of which are directly related to IT security.

o Managerial Professional for an Information Security Project recognizes a non-information security professional such as a CIO, CFO or program/project manager who has demonstrated a leadership role in any information security workforce improvement initiative, program or project in the last 12 months. Candidates in this category typically should have at least 10 years of work experience and occupy a senior-level position within their organization.

o Information Security Practitioner recognizes someone who has distinguished him or herself in implementing and/or managing the implementation of an important security program component. Candidates in this category typically should have at least six years of work experience, three of which are directly related to IT security.

o Up-and-Coming Information Security Professional recognizes a new, rising star in the information security field distinguishing him or herself through a work initiative in their current entry-level position or through their research in their university coursework.

The Americas ISLA Program is open to all information security professionals who meet the criteria above. Submissions must align with the category for which the award candidates are nominated and are judged based upon completeness and accuracy of the information provided. Nominations are also judged based on the overall influence, effectiveness and success of the nominees project or initiative within their organization. Deadline for submissions is May 27, 2011. All submissions will be reviewed by the Americas ISLA Judges Committee, representing a cross-section of information security disciplines, industries and geography within the Americas. The inaugural (ISC)2 Security Congress is scheduled to be held Sept. 19-21, 2011, at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla., and will co-locate with the ASIS International 57th Annual Seminar and Exhibits, making it one of the largest security conferences in the world.
