Survey: 58% of Security and Development Teams Play Nice

The line-in-the sand tension between software development teams and security teams is beginning to ease, according to a survey released today by Veracode.

The survey of 400 IT professionals in the US, UK, and Germany reveals that 58% work at companies where these two teams collaborate on developing secure applications. And with 70% of survey respondents noting their organizations plan to increase application security investments in the next year to two years, it stands to reason that application security development is going to gain in further importance, the report notes.

According to the survey, 43% of respondents believe their companies are using static application security testing and other security solutions because it yields a more efficient development process than retroactively patching production systems.

And of the 45% of survey respondents whose companies have moved onto formal DevOps best practices, they find it makes the work easier for their software development teams. However, 8% of the survey respondents still believe security slows down the software development team.
