PRESS RELEASE
Washington, D.C. – April 12, 2016 – Thycotic, a provider of privileged account management (PAM) solutions for more than 3,500 organizations worldwide, today released the results of a commissioned research study conducted at RSA focusing on cyberterrorism within the U.S. The study, which polled more than 200 security industry attendees at RSA, revealed the key concerns of information security executives which included the growing threats of global cyberterrorism, the current state of security within the U.S. and the ability of organizations to prevent such attacks.
According to the Thycotic survey, cyberterrorism should be taken more seriously as 63 percent of respondents feel terrorists are capable of launching a catastrophic cyber-attack on the U.S. within one year. Additionally, 92 percent of respondents believe that a majority of U.S. companies either need more security or are way behind the security curve to defend against cyberterrorism attacks.
“Some may say the whole discussion surrounding the threats associated with cyberterrorism is hyped; however, our findings show that 72 percent actually feel that the topic isn’t hyped enough and that more needs to be done to protect companies and country as a whole from these types of vulnerabilities,” said Jonathan Cogley, founder and CTO at Thycotic. “Reexamining the type of security technology used to protect both the U.S. government and private sectors is essential to keeping our country safe.”
Additional findings from the survey include:
50 percent of respondents believe U.S. private companies are more vulnerable than government agencies.
42 percent believe the government is more vulnerable than private companies in the U.S.
89 percent of survey respondents believe that both military and businesses need to focus more on developing capabilities to defend against terrorist inspired cyberterrorism.
