Rio Games Escalating Cyber Risk To Mobile Users
Intensified social media activities during sporting events increase threats from cybercriminals to 55%, new report from Allot finds.
Cyber risks to mobile business users during the ongoing Rio Olympic Games have more than doubled, with 55% emanating from increased social media activities, says an Allot Communications survey. Sports fans, 23% of whom are business users, become extra active on different social apps and end up being soft targets for cybercriminals and inviting malware attacks, says the research.
This analysis comes on the back of a similar survey by Allot and Kaspersky Lab during the 2016 UEFA championship which showed that potential risks to digitally active sports fans had more than doubled.
The Rio Games opening ceremony witnessed maximum activity on Facebook brands and, once the event started, 30.2% business user sports fans were found using risky social apps as compared to the 9.7% before. This increased the risk percentage to 45.6% versus 20.3%.
