PRESS RELEASE
Monday, September 21, 2009 -- Chicago -- Athena Security, a leader in products for auditing firewalls as well as the network as a whole, today announced its status as a SolarWinds' Technology Partner through the integration of its FirePAC product with SolarWinds' application programming interfaces ("API") for SolarWinds Orion' Network Configuration Manager (NCM). Bringing a powerful firewall security and compliance solution to network engineers, FirePAC now has the capability to show users how rule changes, tracked by Orion NCM, affect exposures to critical assets inside the network.
"SolarWinds Orion NCM has a strong reputation in the market for offering easy to use, affordable network configuration and change management for a wide range of devices including switches, firewalls, routers, access points and beyond. We believe that our integration to SolarWinds' API, which extends Orion NCM's capabilities to firewall infrastructures and security operations, will be a welcome addition and will encourage more companies to evaluate the product," said Adarsh Arora, CEO of Athena Security. "We combed through a variety of technologies and finally chose to integrate with SolarWinds because of its reputation for understanding the real needs of network engineers -- key players whose cooperation and buy-in is integral to managing a successful security program."
In the face of mounting security risk and regulatory pressure, companies are looking at every angle possible to ensure best practices and compliance to corporate policies. "SolarWinds continues to work closely with network teams to understand their day-to- day challenges and expand the Orion suite to meet those evolving needs," says Kenny Van Zant, SVP and chief product strategist, SolarWinds. "Working with technology partners, like Athena, gives us the opportunity to remain focused on our core objectives, while also providing new, expanded capabilities that can have tremendous impact for our users."
Athena FirePAC 3.1 released Wednesday, August 26th, contains the integration with SolarWinds Orion NCM, as well as these additional new features:
Data Flow Query -- The enhanced query engine allows users to ask behavioral questions about the services allowed through the firewall. Questions such as "what sources can reach a given destination" or "what services are allowed to a given destination" can be answered in minutes rather than the days it takes to figure out manually
Optimized Rule Order -- Provides an automated recommendation on how to reorder you rulebase for performance based on FirePAC's rule usage and rule order dependency analysis
Object Search -- This industry-first capability allows users to search objects by name or content across multiple firewalls, including the membership hierarchy spanning every level
Group Reporting - Create a group report to have a summary overview of the specific rules, risks and errors in your inventory. FirePAC 3.1 is available now for purchase or a free 30-day trial from Athena Security at http://www.athenasecurity.net.
