Corero Acquires Top Layer Security

February 7, 2011: Corero plc (AIM: CORO) and Top Layer Security, a leading provider of real-time Intrusion Prevention and DDOS protection systems, today announced that they have signed a definitive agreement for Corero to acquire Top Layer Security. The transaction has been approved by the boards of directors of both companies. The acquisition is subject to Corero shareholder approval and is expected to close in early March.

Upon completion, Top Layer will constitute the foundation of Corero's security systems' strategy to develop a network security business through organic growth and targeted strategic acquisitions.

Corero's demanding target acquisition profile was focused on finding a proven and commercialized core technology. Top Layer has a rich 13 year heritage in building high performance network security devices, from its early application-aware switches that identify and prioritize specific applications and key transaction types, to today's network intrusion prevention systems that include stateful firewalling and DDOS attack mitigation. Top Layer holds a broad patent portfolio and has developed an extensive suite of capabilities and tools around highly optimized parallel processing. Over the past 3 years, Top Layer has leveraged a close relationship with the Tilera Corporation, a fabless semiconductor company focusing on scalable multicore embedded processor design. The combination of Top Layer's real-time multiprocessor system design experience, security know-how, and Tilera's 64 core processors has yielded an IPS product suite delivering ultra low latency security processing and solutions delivering network throughputs beyond 20 Gbps.
