PRESS RELEASE

Seattle, WA – November 2, 2012 – The Cloud Security Alliance (CSA) today announced the addition of John Streufert, Director, Federal Network Resilience of the Department of Homeland Security as a roundtable keynote to what will be a rare and special opportunity for attendees of the upcoming annual CSA Congress being held November 7-8 in Orlando. Streufert will join the highly anticipated roundtable keynote, Critical Infrastructure, National Security and the Cloud that already includes Marcus Sachs, Vice President for National Security Policy at Verizon; Paul Kurtz, Board member, Cloud Security Alliance, Former special assistant to the President and senior director for critical infrastructure protection on the White House’s Homeland Security Council; Tom Kellermann, Vice President of Cybersecurity for Trend Micro, Commissioner on The Commission on Cyber Security for the 44th Presidency; and Donald A. Purdy, Jr., Chief Security Officer of Huawei Technologies USA. The panel will be moderated by Scott Borg, Director (CEO) and Chief Economist of the U.S. Cyber Consequences Unit (US-CCU), an independent, non-profit research institute that investigates the strategic and economic consequences of possible cyber-attacks. Borg is widely regarded as the leading authority on the economics of cyber security, as well as certain technical topics. “National security and the cloud, and the critical infrastructure that it supports, has really become of significant importance for government and industry to address and create best practices for,” said Jim Reavis, Executive Director of the CSA. “Members of this panel have both shaped national policy towards critical infrastructure protection and have worked for commercial cloud and security solution providers. Their perspective, ideas and solutions are certain to provide invaluable content for our attendees.” In 1998, US presidential directive PDD-63 created a program for Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP). Since then, the US Federal Government has developed policies and programs encouraging migration to cloud computing, which is also being aggressively adopted by the private sector. Critical infrastructure protection is a key public/private partnership. Scheduled for Thursday, November 8 at 9 am, the discussion will focus on how an increasingly cloud-based critical infrastructure impacts national security now and into the future. Cloud Security Alliance Congresses continue to be the industry's premier gathering for IT security professionals and executives who must further educate themselves on the rapidly evolving subject of cloud security. In addition to offering best practices and practical solutions for remaining secure in the cloud, this year's third annual U.S. CSA Congress will focus on emerging areas of growth and concern in cloud security, including standardization, transparency of controls, mobile computing, Big Data in the cloud and innovation. This year’s conference will also feature the release of more than 20 research and guidance reports from various CSA working groups in some of the most critical areas of cloud computing including, mobile, big data and privacy. Attendees will gain exposure to industry-specific case studies that will help them learn and leverage best practices used by their peers in moving to a secure cloud security.
